Hermes: The Horse and the Cart

Perhaps one of the most iconic metaluxury brands with origins in leather work is Hermes due to its authentic heritage, enduring legacy, fine craftsmanship and dedication to innovation.  As equestrians, many of us were introduced to the brand many years ago by way of the company’s famous Steinkraus jumping saddle.  Inversely, the fashion industry has long known the brands connection with equestrians because Hermes integrates a horse into its logo/mark.    “The now iconic logo of Hermes was designed and introduced in the early 1950s. It comprises of a Duc carriage, which is attached to a horse, perhaps interpreting the company’s humble origins as a horse saddlery manufacturer (1).”

When I am not in the stable, a must wear accessory is my enamel Hermes bracelet that subtly features the Hermes mark. I love this piece because it keeps me connected to both my passion for horses and my infatuation with true artisans. Not to mention, it is simply elegant and complements almost any outfit- casual or formal.

Are you now more curious about the history of Hermes? It is said a picture is worth a thousand word…click to see why: HERMES METAMORPHIS
