INSPIRATION

From the bluegrass to the quality of farms and now the home of the National Horse Show, Lexington Kentucky,  is fast transitioning to an epicenter for the hunter/jumper community. The culture, with includes excellent culinary choices and the hospitality of the region’s locals, wonderfully completes the experience.  My travels through the South have always been thoroughly enjoyed, but Lexington has definitely become my favorite city and made this region of the country a favorite destination of mine.

CHANGE IS POSSIBLE

This past year when we purchased my “horse of a lifetime” from a barn in Culpepper Virginia, I knew I wanted his name to reflect the Sothern culture of both his heritage and the region I have fallen in love with. In my previous experience of owning horses in the breed industry, changing a registered name was not allowed.   Luckily, my dear friend Jennifer Bliss educated me on the USEF process and after getting to know my new horse’s personality, we officially changed his name with just a simple form.  Because he is a happy and personable horse (I'd say a pocket-pony!), we call my horse “Sunny” around the barn , but his official USEF name is “Sazerac”.

Why Sazerac?

Rich in history, the Sazerac is New Orleans’ official cocktail and is quintessential Southern. The drink is a hearty chestnut color as it is made primarily from Cognac or whiskey. The balance of the recipe varies, but it typically also includes absinthe, sugar, and lemon. One of my favorite “hip” lifestyle blogs called “A House on the Hill” edited by Sarah Yates Morah describes the Sazerac as a man’s drink. Her husband, Lou, has a  wonderful recipe that I highly recommend. LOU'S RECIPE.

So far the name Sazerac has been a perfect match…. Sunny has classic looks, is a rich chestnut color, and in my eyes is a true Southern Gentleman with just enough "kick" to be my perfect fit!

Salut!

Enjoying time on Sazerac, aka Sunny
