The Starbucks Latte Macchiato

All of my friends know that the way to my heart is a visit to Starbucks. Yes, I am that person that visits at least once or twice a day and my social media feeds feature A LOT of Starbucks cups because I often have an espresso based drink with me.  Until January, my beverage of choice was based on the “less is more” concept. I would always order a short nonfat mocha, no whip, and extra hot. In January, though, I discovered a “new” favorite: the Latte Machiato. It is crafted using two simple ingredients – espresso and milk.

Starbucks describes the drink as follows:

The new Latte Macchiato features steamed whole milk that is perfectly aerated and free-poured creating dense foam reminiscent of meringue. The beverage is then marked by slowly-poured full espresso shots, creating a signature espresso dot.

Starbucks baristas will use this carefully crafted technique to draw out an intensely bold and roasty flavor that highlights the Starbucks espresso in the beverage.

My key to lightening up the drink is ordering the 12 oz. “Tall” and I substitute whole milk for skim.  I find the flavor incredibly rich and when made with these options the beverage contains only 100 calories.  It's my new perfect start to the day and my healthy choice for an afternoon flavor indulgence.

Salut!
