A FAMILY’S LOVE FOR ALL THINGS EQUESTRIAN
Notes from Rönner Design's creative designer, Carin Stellabatti Rönner.
When one can feel that they are transformed into a specific place by just a glimpse of an item, than an experience has been successfully shared from the designer to the observer. This is a unique characteristic of Rönner Design; a lifestyle brand that is inspired by all things equestrian and currently includes an expansive ready-to-wear collection for women, a complete line of stylish footwear, complimentary accessories, select home décor pieces and Mini Rönner for girls.
Established in 2010, Rönner prides itself as a family-owned fashion house that was founded by sisters Carin and Jessica Stellabatti Rönner, and inspired by their mother Ines Rönner Stellabatti. In less than a decade, their brand has become internationally recognized for its authentic interpretation of the equestrian lifestyle through its creation of original designs specific only to their label.
Carin Stellabatti Rönner provides us with a personal glimpse at to what makes the Rönner name so special.
ON THE SPECIAL BOND OF THE RÖNNER WOMEN
RÖNNER ‘lifestyle’ has been inspired, in large part, by our mother, Ines Rönner, who left her native Germany as a young woman and came to Colombia where she indulged in her love of horses and established herself as a cornerstone of the social scene, opening a successful tack business and regularly hosting visitors from overseas. Ines has always been passionate about riding and horses and we grew up in this environment, watching her ride and sharing the love for horses.
Jessica, my sister, went to business school and I had a background in industrial design, then specializing in fashion design. These three ingredients merged and gave as a result the perfect team to create a lifestyle label motivated by all the beautiful things that escort a life with the love for horses.
This passion was passed to us and with RÖNNER DESIGN we have been able to harness our European roots and immerse in our love of all-things-equestrian, whilst at the same time adding a dash of Latin American flair to deliver collections unlike any others in the marketplace.
We three have created everything. We came up with the idea seven years ago, and from then on we have worked together on everything. Each of us has a specific area to focus; by each one of us has been key in every step.
ON THE IMPORTANCE OF UNIQUE FABRICS
The concept of a lifestyle brand inspired by the equestrian world was pretty clear from the beginning. At the very beginning we didn’t have our own exclusive prints, so we were constantly looking for fabrics with equestrian motifs, and we then realized that the only way to create truly unique pieces, was designing our own fabrics.
That was a huge step for the brand. The developing of the prints is a big process in our design progression we work with illustrators and textile designers putting a lot of attention into every part of it.
ON DESIGN INSPIRATION
Anything that involves horses, from glamorous polo matches to feminine hats that are worn, to exciting horse races, a beautiful dressage Kur to the look of riders ready to compete, or it can simply be the effortless rhythm of a day at the countryside. I am also very keen on history; for example the picturesque sidesaddle riding in 1800 inspired our latest collection, The Cabalina.
ON CREATING DESIGNS THAT ARE SPECIAL FOR WOMEN
I want women who like our style, to feel like they found a glove to their life. Timeless and classic pieces that speak for them selves, they say something like: I am comfortable with the person I am, I am passionate about a certain lifestyle, I don’t need to follow trends, I need to be comfortable but still chic and with something that counterparts the activities in my life.
